Recent Invertebrate Surveys and the Discovery of a Mythical Creature.

Entosearch has recently conducted several invertebrate surveys where sick, dead or dying plants were identified.

As part of these surveys, we examine these plants for invertebrate infestations and species in the location and potentially responsible for the plant damage are identified.

Recent surveys have uncovered examples of boring larvae in these plants as well as adult populations of the Australian Longhorn Beetle or Longicorn.

While they sound like some kind of mythical creature, longicorns actually eat the heartwood of trees and have antennae that resemble horns. Their larvae are hatched from eggs laid under tree bark, and they feast on living or dead wood until they pupate and emerge as adults.

Here are some examples of longicorn beetles that have been either collected during our surveys or reared from larvae to adult.
